Living Creatively: Creative Crafts

A blog documenting the people who think outside of the box and have the courage to live creatively.

Creative Cities

The Most Creative Cities in the World:

San Jose, California (also referred to as “Silicon Valley”)

San Jose is the birthplace of the tech industry in the USA.

Boston, Massachusetts

Boston has been giving San Jose a run for its money lately, with its hot tech startup incubation scene and free flowing venture capital. It doesn’t have the clout of San Jose and probably never will, but it is a fast emerging hub of creative minds in the US. The fact that it has literally hundreds of universities located in and just outside the city limits helps a great deal.

San Francisco, California

San Francisco is where many creative tech startups are now starting to relocate from outside of Silicon Valley. Unfortunately, alongside this influx of creative talent we are also seeing many middle aged creative souls leaving too. After all, how many artists can truly thrive in a city with rent like this.

Sydney, Australia

My hometown, and I am honestly so proud to be here. From the opera house to the bustling skateboard scene located just downtown, Sydney boasts a wealth of creative activities sufficient for folks of all colors. Stop on by and visit, the pints on me. Beijing, China

The political capital of China, but increasingly a place where artists and dissidents are calling home. While this past winter hasn’t been as smoggy as Shanghai, the pollution remains a downside, and undoubtedly scares many potential creatives away.

New York City, New York

New York faces a similar predicament to San Francisco in that increasingly expensive rents are forcing the creative types out of the city. If we are going to pay exorbitant rent, we’d rather become attorneys here. That said, New York has a fast-growing tech scene and in spite of the ridiculous cost of living, continues to attract creative types from all over the world.
